One of two sun dials on display in the privately owned McAree's Vintage Museum, Ballinode.
This 245mm square brass dial is inscribed This diall Erected Anno 1747 William Sandys Esq and at the base of the gnomon Lat 53d- 40m In the centre of the dial are three overlapping circles forming what appears to be a night/sun/day motif. Hour lines extend from this motif through a 15 minute fractional time ring, the half hours being marked by a cross, to the chapter ring which shows 4a.m. to 8p.m. in Roman numerals with IIII for four. There is a fractional time ring outside the chapter ring with 5 min divisions. It has a split noon to compensate for the pierced 8mm thick by 150mm high (but slightly bent) gnomon.

Museum is at Lat 54° 16' North     Long 7° 02' West
