Mayo Sundial





A modern horizontal stone dial at the Quay in Westport. 850mm diam, 100mm thick, the 40mm thick gnomon is 425mm high. Reads 4a.m. to 8p.m. in Roman numerals IIII as four, split noon to compensate for gnomon thickness, 30 and 15 min. lines. It sits on a stone plinth 300mm high. The latin motto reads SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI (so passes the glory of the world) and the dedication  "To the memory of the Westport Quay Dockers who sat here on the Idle Wall.  Erected by Westport Habour Commissioners 1990"
