Armillary Sphere at Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny |
Many thanks to Terence Cunningham for these photos and description |
The Armillary Sphere in the Millennium Garden in front of the ruins of a medieval tower in the village of Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny originally stood in the middle of the Winter Garden of the nearby 18th century Woodstock House which was burned down in 1922 during the Civil War. The armillary part can be rotated easily about a vertical axis so it's not properly aligned. There are no markings of any kind on the bands so it is quite incapable of telling the time. Inistioge is located about 25 Kms from Kilkenny on the R700 road to New Ross. Lat 52° 29' North Long 7° 4' West Irish Grid S 263430 137840 |
