Dublin Sundial





A bronze 2-ring armillary sphere, located on the back lawn at the south side of Luttrellstown Castle. 620 mm in diameter, mounted on a 500 mm high wrought iron scroll stand, the twenty four hours are marked in Arabic numerals, 1 to 12, then 1 to 12, on a 60mm by 5mm cracked time ring. It shows 30mins, 15mins and 5 mins divisions between 4a.m. and 8.p.m. The stand is marked "Thomas Potter London" with no date.
Set (pointing eastwards???)on the 490mm diameter by 150mm top of a 1130mm high circular sandstone pillar with an elaborate plinth, which sits on the 1800mm square by 75mm high top step of a tier of two steps, the bottom step being 3000mm square.
Luttrellstown Castle is 15k west of Dublin city on the R109 (close by Beech Park). Access is restricted, not open to the public.
