In 2014 Buncrana Town Council commisioned a new eight metres in diameter monumental sundial for the shore front green in the town.
Mr Piers Nicholson was the sundial calculations consultant.
Mr.George O'Hagan, (Crana Engineering Ltd), designed and made the tubular stainless steel gnomon - the 3 metre high shadow caster.
Buncrana Council employees did the site work.

The four tall, unidentified, rough hewn pillar stones possibly indicate the North, South, East and West points of the compass, the small smooth unidentified rectangular pillar stones have no obvious time or directional value. The unidentified rectangular flat slabs may be hour indicators.

A nearby information plaque has a table that shows the watch time at which solar noon occurs throughout the year, at ten day intervals.

The sundial is situated on the shore of Lough Swilly at Buncrana in the Inishowen Penninsula.

Lat 55° 8' North      Long 7° 28' West
